5 Times When Wired Earphones Proved Better Than Wireless

19 Mar

For the connoisseur of earphones, a proper pair of earphones is as important as a comfortable pair of shoes.

Choosing between wired and wireless has more to do with how the user intends to use them most of the time. Wireless earbuds are ideal for active lifestyles as they favor secure fits and durable constructions. But if one is more concerned with high-fidelity audio while at work or studying, traditional earphones are the best bet.

Let’s walk through 5 occasions when Wired Earphones proved better than wireless.

1. Batteries & Charge Time
Wired headsets as we all know, supply their own power via the cable and can operate continuously for as long as is necessary. However, since the Wireless headsets have limited operation time – eventually, we’ll have to recharge the device or replace its batteries. Depending on the duration for which, the headset will be in continuous use, this can be a minor issue or a serious one. Such as if you are planning to use the headset for a long time, as in for a webinar or online classes, the operation time for a headset can be a serious consideration.

2. Interference
Wireless devices are more prone to electronic interference, so are our wireless headsets. The causes of this interference can majorly be attributed to signal traffic and building infrastructure. The construction of a building and arrangement of major ductwork, furniture and large amounts of metal can create interference for wireless devices. When many wireless signals are transmitted close to one another, the resulting traffic may cause interference, diminished audio quality and even complete loss of signal. These wireless signals are transmitted by many devices, including not only the headsets but also our colleague’s mobile phone, wireless Internet routers, and almost any device broadcasting via radio frequency. If any of the wireless headsets are operating on the same frequency, one can experience small amounts of crosstalk between the devices, causing interference and more. And because wired headsets are directly connected to a computer, they face none of these interference issues.

3. Cost
In times when every penny saved is a penny earned that can be routed elsewhere in the budget, shelling out more for wireless may be a poor choice unless mobility is absolutely necessary.

4. Blessing In Disguise
Wired headphones definitely are our old faithful, not just because of the fact that they used to come in complimentary with most of the Smartphones, but also because of the reason that they actually helped us save our devices hitting the ground in case of accidental slip from hands a million times. The Earphones tucked into the 3.5 mm jack actually was a life saver for the devices.

5. Last But Not The Least, Sound Quality
To stream music wirelessly, Bluetooth uses the default SBC audio codec to compress the data of the song. Then, the wireless audio device decompresses the data using the same SBC audio codec. This process can result in distortions and leave behind some rarity in the audio that sounds like buzzes. Though this has changed with the most recent update to Bluetooth 5 and may change in the future with advances in battery design and Bluetooth technology.

Hence with the advancement in the Wireless technology steadily taking over, these little masterpieces are rapidly becoming more in demand. However, be it wired or wireless, all that a music enthusiast wants is flawless sound and comfortable fit for long hours of listening
